Fair to say that ahead of Cadwell Park, Round 8 of the British Superbike Championship it was a challenging week for us that finally saw the Bike Devil Insurance MV Agusta team bring in Gino Rea in for Danny Kent.
After a short test on the Thursday evening we managed to get some vital information ahead of the weekend. Cadwell is one of those tracks full of compromise and with no historical data we had to work fast and hard as a team to up to speed.
FP1 was good ending 21st and with lots to work on. Gino took to the bike well and was enjoying the flowing ups and downs of the Lincolnshire circuit.
FP2 was a complete wash out as the rain came down and we decided to sit out, no reward for the wet season as the rest of the weekend was dry.
FP3 we finished 16th 1.7 off the top which isn’t bad for this rollercoaster of a circuit and very little track time.
Qualifying we pushed through Q1 with only 4 laps and a best time of the weekend. Satisfying for the team we were through to the top 18 where we managed to post a time of p15 for the race.
Row 5 was a great start and somewhere we could fight for points.
Race 1 Gino rode very well and chased the official Suzuki of Luke Stapleford and challenged all the way to the end for 11th but had to settle for 12th our first points of the year and being very competitive.
Race 2 qualifies on the 5th row but in 13th and Gino got away really well and was looking at a top 10 finish when we had an electrical problem and meant he had to stop.
Very good weekend for development and also showcases the bike and its capabilities
Thanks to Gino and he’s great job this weekend and the BikeDevil team now get ready for Oulton Park in 3 weekends time. We will be announcing our permanent rider for the remainder of the season soon.
