Bike Devil’s Week on Two-Wheels: Our Weekly News Update – 8th July

It’s that time of the week again – the Bike Devil weekly round-up. And have we got a lot to get through this week…

In case you missed it, we’ll start with our major racing announcement. On Wednesday last week (3rd July), we announced our partnership with the new MV Agusta Racing UK team for the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike series which sees Bike Devil returning to the BSB paddock. Former Moto3 World Champion Danny Kent will be riding for the team, so watch this space. You can read the full story here.

Talking of racing, fans were spoilt for choice this weekend with MotoGP and World Superbikes taking place. Starting with the MotoGP, reigning champ, Marc Marquez has equalled Rossi’s Mugello record of 10-straight wins at a single circuit after topping the podium at Sachsenring. Viñales crossed the line in second place and secured his second podium of the season. Third place was taken by Cal Crutchlow, his first rostrum since the Qatar GP and an amazing result for the Brit given that he was battling a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and a small fracture in his tibia following a cycling accident…

It was a great weekend for four-time WSBK Champion, Jonathan Rea as he now tops the WSBK standings ahead of his main rival Bautista. He now has a 24-point advantage after the Donington round, after starting the weekend with a 61-point deficit.

There was also some racing in Belgium, although this took on a very different look and feel at the Bikers Classic event at Spa Francorchamps. The smell of Castrol R was ever-present as two stroke RGs, TZs, LCs, among others, belched out a blue haze while oil-cooled GSX-Rs, big Ducati twins, and CB1000R Hondas took part in the four race. It’s something every biker should visit – we guarantee you’ll love it and keep going back. We’ve got a special in-depth look into the event coming very soon, so keep an eye out…

In ‘new bike news’, Husqvarna unveiled their new 2020 FS 450 for last week, priced at £9699, the supermoto machine is still powered by the same 450cc engine but now comes with factory-installed launch control and basic traction control as standard. The suspension components have been swapped out too for 48mm WP XACT forks and a WP XACT shock on the rear and it now comes with a blacked-out exhaust too. It’s fitted with 16.5” Alpina wheels on the front and 17” at the back, complete with Bridgestone slick tyres.

One bike that really got our attention this week was the R nineT anniversary model, announced by BMW in tribute to the /5 series models of the later 1960s. While no pricing information has been revealed yet, we’re already doing the sums in our heads. As the name would suggest, the R nineT is used as the base model of this anniversary machine, but it will be ‘retro-ed’ with a Lupine blue paint scheme, chrome mirrors and fork gaiters and spoked wheels.

And if you were one of the track day aficionados mourning the closure of Rockingham Motor Speedway last year, rejoice! Promoter No Limits has announced two dates for the International layout on 26 August and 21 September.

Only seven days until the next Bike Devil round-up!

Log on, Tune in, Ride out…
