Bike Devil’s Week on Two-Wheels: Our Weekly News Update – 29th July

Posted 29th July 2019

Monday, Monday! It’s that time of the week again – the Bike Devil Week on Two-Wheels…

Well, what a drama filled weekend of racing it was over at Suzuka! A big congratulations to the Kawasaki Racing Team being crowned victorious for the first time at Suzuka since 1993 – but it wasn’t all plain sailing…

There were just six seconds between the factory teams of Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda at the six-hour mark. Then the #2 SERT Suzuki bike gave up the ghost going into Turn 3 and as a result, depositing fluid on the track, which Rea seemingly hit and crashed with just minutes left until the chequered flag. The race was red-flagged, but as Jonathan Rea didn’t reach the finish line, Yamaha was declared the winner of the race…let the appeal commence! After ‘discussions’ it was decided that Kawasaki were declared the winners due to the rule which states that when the race is stopped by a red flag, the standings are taken from the previous lap. Still with us? Let the celebration commence!

We couldn’t talk about the racing at the weekend without mentioning Michael Dunlop who won both Superbike races at the Armoy Race Races just 16 days after breaking his pelvis – as you do! Still using crutches to help him walk, the BMW Tyco rider rode to his 18th and 19th win around his home circuit at Armoy.

We’d all love a race bike in our garage, wouldn’t we?! Well, we’re pleased to announce that Triumph has announced the news that many of us have been waiting for, it’s new Daytona. A new Moto2 derived 765cc triple engine inside a ‘championship-winning sports-focused chassis.”. According to the release, it will have the highest power and torque ever from a production 765cc and the highest specification of equipment – plus a limited edition race paint scheme – just in case that wasn’t enough. No pricing information has been shared yet, but with only 765 available across Europe and Asia and another 765 to share for the US and Canada, we’re pretty sure people will already be getting their names down with dealers without knowing the final price… and we don’t blame them!

Also in new bike news, Honda tweeted: “True Adventure’s calling. Can you hear it? Get ready to leave the road behind as you answer the call of the wild. http://spr.ly/6015EIwMX” asking fans to register their interest to be kept up to date with the latest new model releases… we’re not ones to speculate but “True Adventure’s calling” – we’re pretty sure we know what’s coming…

Fancy yourself as a bit of a stunt rider? Thanks to the new free-standing remote control Ducati Panigale V4 S model from Spin Master Toys – now you can be! Officially licenced, the 1:6 scale model is around 35cm long and 26.5cm tall. Available from August 2019 and priced at £149.99, we know what’s on our Christmas lists…
