Bike Devil’s Week on Two-Wheels: Our Weekly News Update – 30th September

Posted 30th September 2019

Where is the time going? Time for the final Bike Devil Week on Two-Wheels in September…

There is no question as to where to start this week, it simply has to be with the news of Jonathan Rea achieving his fifth – yes FIFTH – World Superbike Championship in amazing style at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, clinching the title with two rounds to spare!

With this, Rea becomes a true king of World Superbikes – holding a record number of championship wins, race wins and career points.

There are so many stats to choose from – these are some of our favourites…

Rea has racked up 83 wins – that’s 24 ahead of Carl Fogarty. He’s been on the podium 162 times – which means he’s been inside the top three in a whopping 59.1% of his race appearances. From 135 starts with Kawasaki, he’s been on the rostrum 117 times: as a percentage, that is 86.%, the highest for a full-time WorldSBK rider with one manufacturer. And the season isn’t over yet…

Congratulations to Jonathan – we hope he had some serious celebratory drinks last night!

Congratulations also must be given to Toprak Razgatliohglu, who is the first Turkish winner in World Superbike history, charging from 16th on the grid to the top step of the podium in the 800th World Superbike race!

In ‘new bike news’, it’s been pretty quiet, however, we know of a few launches coming up… Including one from Yamaha, who has released a teaser of a naked bike which will be revealed on Wednesday 16 October at 2pm CET. There are a few rumours of what it could be, we’ll just wait and see!

Ducati is holding a live unveiling of its 2020 range on Wednesday 23 October – and you can log in and see it too – here’s the link:

You may have seen a number of dapper looking riders this weekend as they took part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. Founded originally in Sydney, Australia, the event is now a worldwide event which unites riders across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health. Great event for great causes!

That’s all from us for this week folks!

Log On, Tune In, Ride Out…
