Bike Devil’s Week On Two-Wheels: Our Weekly News Update

Posted 1st July 2019

We’ve been extremely busy at Bike Devil HQ chatting through the latest news in the world of two-wheels following the weekend. Here are our highlights…

This morning was kicked off in style with a new bike reveal by MV Agusta, as it revealed a special Dragster 800 RC, a special edition piece of Italian exotica benefitting from a stand-out black and gold livery. Dubbed the Shining Gold, it also gets a SC Project Reparto Corse exhaust and customers will get a matching X-Lite X-803 lid to complete the look. We think it’s super-cool, if you like that kind of thing, and if you don’t you can always check what your hair looks like on the way past as it’s so shiny…

Looking for a new bike on finance? Suzuki has announced today that both its range-topping GSX-R1000R and learner-friendly GSX-R125 are both available on 0% finance, with the offer running until the end of September 2019. Always nice to get a good deal!

Motorcycle enthusiasts headed to Donington Park yesterday (Sunday 30th June) for ‘World of Kawasaki’. Free to attend, visitors were treated to track sessions, demo rides as well as the chance to see stunt displays and get up close with riders like World Superbike competitor, and current British Superbike Champion, Leon Haslam.

Suzuki and classic fans made their way to Lincolnshire as Suzuki hosted its annual Classic Suzuki Track Day at Cadwell Park. And with the sun shining, attendees were treated to the sights and smells – including an (un)healthy dose of Castrol R – of RG500s, RGV250s, GSX-Rs, plus everything in between, as they circulated the stunning ribbon of Lincolnshire asphalt. Legends including Steve Parrish, John Reynolds, and Phil Read also made an appearance.

With new pieces of riding kit unveiled practically every day, the piece that stood out for us recently – or should we say got us ‘pumped up’ – was the new release from Dainese. In a world where everything is ‘smart’, why not add a ‘Smart Jacket’ to your collection? However, the thing that’s cool about this, is that it can be worn under or over any jacket and doesn’t need to be connected to your bike. You can bag one if you’ve got £569.95 spare. We’ll be running a poll on our Facebook page soon to ask you if you think airbag jackets are the future of bike safety or a bit too much…

In sport, Maverick Vinales finally got back to winning ways in MotoGP this weekend, after a fairly barren period for the young Spanish racer. The Yamaha man responded to his critics in fine fashion though, winning in convincing style at Assen, ahead of championship leader Marc Marquez.

Back in Blighty, Danny Buchan grabbed his debut BSB win, showing that the championship rule-makers have created a level playing field by winning on his privateer Kawasaki at Knockhill. Fan-favourite Scott Redding also excelled at the finicky Scottish circuit, silencing the naysayers that suggested the MotoGP exile would struggle at the more quirky British circuits.

We can’t talk about the events this week without mentioning the sad news from Pikes Peak (29-30 June). Carlin Dunne, 36, was tragically killed when he crashed the Ducati Streetfighter V4 prototype at the event. The four-time Pikes Peak winner was less than a quarter of a mile from the finish line. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and the team.

Bike Devil will be making a major announcement later this week, so please keep an eye on the internet wires.

See you next Monday for your next instalment! – Log on, Tune in, Ride out……
